Tips from Catherine @luckygotbently

Consider your Lifestyle: Singapore specials have varying energy levels, sizes, and temperaments. Before adopting a dog, consider your daily routine, living situation, and activity level. Some dogs require more exercise and attention than others, so make sure the dog’s needs align with your lifestyle.

Regular Vet Checkups and Vaccinations: Remember that having a pet comes with lots of responsibilities! Pay a visit to the veterinarian shortly after adopting your dog to ensure they are in good health. Keep up with regular checkups, vaccinations, and preventive care. With some dogs being older in age, consider the fact that they would also need regular medication or long-term care and consider these factors to make sure that you are able to commit before you adopt!

Invest Time in Training and Socialization: Consistent training and socialization are crucial. As some dogs might also come with some past history of trauma, remember that it’s not always gonna be sunshine and rainbows! Remember to find the right trainers and looking force-free training methods. Research and ask around for reviews and feedback on the trainers you’re look to engage.

Research and Choose Wisely: Take the time to research about Singapore Specials, as they are a mix of many breeds and thus have very different temperaments from purebreds. Ask around or look at the various shelter profiles, talk to friends and even the shelters to find one that matches your preferences and abilities. Consider factors such as size, grooming needs, and temperament. If you’re looking for chill dogs, or couch potatoes, consider opening your home to senior dogs!
